The Bible

Have you ever received a love letter? Or a gift from someone you love? You treasure it, think about it, and look back to it often. Is it because the letter or gift have something magical about them? No. You love it because it is a reminder of that person you love and the relationship you have with them. This is our Bible.

God did not have to give us written words to know him—but he has graciously chosen to do so! He is kind and generous! He has given us this gift of his written word (love letter) that we call the Bible. Let’s be wise and treat the treasure as it should be!

-Complete the Doer practical application steps

DOER STEP:

BE DOERS OF THE WORD, AND NOT HEARERS ONLY, DECEIVING YOURSELVES. JAMES 1:22

  1. With your small group leader go through the table of contents of the Bible and see which books out of the 66 you don’t have a fundamental understanding of and together come up with a realistic reading plan for you to finish the whole Bible! It is said the our generation and every generation since (that means you and your future small group) are the most biblically illiterate! Let's change that!

  2. Read this quote and tell us what you thought about it,what stood out to you?

“The Bible is not just a book of history; although, its records have been

accurately substantiated by modern archaeology. It is not a book of

poetry; although, it has been the inspiration of countless songs and

poems through the centuries. It is not an adventure story; although,

few novels have matched the sheer drama of its pages. It is not a book

of ethics or morality; although, civilization’s finest and fairest laws

have been forged from its principles. It is not a textbook, but it still

astonishes scientists and scholars from fields as widely-differing as

genetics, geology and nuclear physics. The Bible is a unique record of

man’s problem and God’s own answer; the good news of the

love revolution begun by the Father, given by the Son and operated by the Holy Spirit.”

  3. Ask both one guy and one girl on staff two questions about the Bible.

    • The first question is anything practical you want to

know about the Bible, or Bible study. For example,

What are some of their go to ways to study the

    Bible or a favorite resource(s), favorite practices/

habits, etc (be creative and ask your own questions)

    • The second question pertains to the heart and

conviction of reading the Bible. For example, Why

do we need to read the Bible daily, what have you

found when you spend extravagant time in the

bible compared to when you don't read, etc.

  4. The final challenge is to memorize scripture!

Specifically 10 different chunks of scripture and we

hope it is challenging but even more rewarding! You

can use whatever translation you want to memorize

and any method you think will be best for memorization.

Be ready to be asked at staff check-ins about how scripture memorization is going! Here are the 10:

    • Deuteronomy 6:4-5 • Matthew 9:37-38

    • Matthew 11:28. • Matthew 28:18-20

    • John 3:16-17 • John 14:6

    • Galatians 5:22-23. • 2 Timothy 1:7

    • 2 Timothy 2:2. • 2 Timothy 3:16-17
